A caricature is an art form and a type of art. One of the most famous caricatures are those done by Gustave Doré, the illustrator and literary figure who was a French artist and painter. He was known for his detailed and often humorous renditions of Christian characters. In fact, he created so many caricatures that his name is now translated as “Caricature Artist” or “invented character”.
