We know, that sometimes the licensure process may seem quite complicated and can make the applicants have second thoughts about whether it is worth trying or not. However, once you get all the steps right, there is nothing that difficult.

Generally, applicants need to have a Hunter Education Certificate. To acquire it, Idaho residents need to take a special course first.

One of the first things you need to know about the license is that there are several types actually, and being aware of the difference between them is essential.

The main types of licenses are as follows:

  • For Idaho Residents
  • For non-residents
  • Youth hunters
  • Senior hunters
  • Disability hunters
  • Veterans and Military

There might be some distinct differences between the mentioned types, so knowing exactly what type you are applying for is desirable and necessary.

More Details about the 2022 Hunting License

Many residents of Idaho are interested in how and when they are allowed to apply for the Idaho hunting license 2022. Commonly, every year the Idaho official website publishes the current regulations. To receive a copy, the residents simply need to go to their website and download the copy. Also, there is an option of receiving the copy by calling 208-334-3700 and following the relevant instructions. Generally, the instructions are for two years period.

Often, a question pops up, whether residents can apply as a party. However, the parties mostly consist of two, not more participants., it is true mostly for residents. Non-residents are not recommended to apply as a party. Applications are accepted starting from April 1.

When filling in the application, you have two main hunt choices to mention (mostly choose from a moose, bighorn sheep, or mountain goat). Interestingly enough, the permitted weapons differ for different hunt choices. However, remember that your first listed choice is the one that will probably be considered. When your application is confirmed by the authorities, you have time until August 1 to purchase the hunting tag.

Are there age restrictions?

So, who can hunt? This is an interesting question as many wonder whether there are any restrictions when it comes to hunting. One of the main restrictions is perhaps age-related. So, can my son or daughter hunt with me is a common question that has a clear answer, in fact. They can, the answer is. Yet, in Idaho only ten years old and older children have permission to hunt. Still, parents may apply for a license for their children when they are nine, and they can use it as soon as they become of age.

There is a special application form for children – the Junior Mentored program. Under the program, children should be in the woods accompanied by an adult, as a part of a hunting party. Still, an adult can accompany a maximum of two youths, not more, having them in sight all the time.

Fees and Other Information

We hope the first part of the article has provided enough knowledge about the license and the ways of obtaining it. Now, it is time to mention also other points that are no less important.

So, let’s start with fees. As you know fees are an inseparable part of obtaining almost any type of permit. Thus, let us introduce you to the obligatory payments that come along with the hunting license.

  • Permit fee - $195 (non-refundable)
  • Application fee - $45.75 (non-refundable)
  • Payment for each specie - $18
  • A transaction fee of 3% (+$3.50 for online options)
  • A transaction fee of 3% (+$6.50 for phone options)

You will receive your permit no later than the 10th of July.  If you fail to get the permit, you’ll get only the refundable part of the payment.

If for some reason, you are not able to use the hunting tags, the possibility of a refund is minuscule.

Only in cases of illness, loss, or other substantial emergencies residents might get a refund.

Also, if for any reason you cannot use your tags, you can transfer them to the youngsters (children, grandchildren), unless they are for bighorn sheep, moose, and mountain goats

Above we have tried to introduce to you the important points that might certainly be of use. However, be sure you have got all the answers you need before you start. Good luck with obtaining the license and the upcoming hunting adventures!
